Seaway Gun Club October 9, 2010

OVHS Sportsmen's Club had our first shoot around at Seaway Gun Club on Saturday. We had a great time and learned a ton.  Thank you to Mike A., Pete Z, Jeff S, Eric P, Jeff D., & John F, for giving up your Saturday morning and helping the kids.  I thank you and the kids thank you!

Youth Day 2010

Youth Day at Muskegon County 4H Fairgrounds: Well, the rain started just about the time we got in line. We decided to stick it out and be true "sportsmen." John W, Craig V, Garrett D, Ron W, and myself were able to make it out to the event. All of the club members got to shoot at a variety of targets that were set up at various stations. The new venue for the event was a great change. There was so much to do and such a wide variety. If you have not been to a Youth Day event before, mark your calendars for next year. We will be in line for sure, rain or shine! Take a peek at a few photos snapped on our outing. Thank you to Sportsmen's for Youth for sponsoring this awesome event and giving kids of Muskegon County exposure to several outdoor activities.

Hunter's Safety Certification Class

Do you know someone who would like to become hunter's safety certified? Seaway Gun Club is offering a 3 day course.  Sept. 15th 6-9 pm: Sign up, pick up books, and orientation.   Sept. 21, 22, & 23 is class from 6-9 pm. There is a small $5 registration fee which is to be refunded on completion of the class.

Some of the OVHS Sportsmen's Club activities require the student to have a hunter's safety certificate in order to participate in certain activities. Although hunter's safety is highly recommended for club members, it is not necessay.

Goose Hunt Success for One Club Member

Garrett D. had some luck on a recent goose hunt. Garrett's group harvested six geese. Garrett took his first goose on this hunt. Two of the birds were banded. Thanks to Eric P. and Matt M. for taking Garrett out on a very successful goose hunt!

Goose & Early Doe Season Information

Just a reminder that there will be an early doe season for private land owners that begins on Sept. 16th.

The early doe season will go for 5 days.  Good luck to all those going out for the early hunt.

Early Goose season has began.  Sept 1st-  Check the DNRE website for specific areas that are opened and the specific dates opened.  Good luck to all those heading out goose hunting!
